Treat Yo’self Thursday

It’s been a while since we had a good Treat Yo’Self Thursday post.  And let me tell you this Alba Spiced Hot Toddy set is awesome.  It smells like a cinnamon spice cocktail and feels amazing. My skin was getting really dry from all the post-work out showers and this dynamic duo came to my rescue.

I actually received it as part of an amazing gift from my best friend Nicole.  Once a month for a year – a whole year! – a box from Bestowed is going to come my way.  Bestowed is a really cool service.  Once a month a box of healthy snacks and other products arrives in a sweet orange box.  Talk about treating yo’self!  Or in this case, someone else treating myself!  Love it!

Treat Yo’Self Thursday

Two Words.  Eye.  Cream.   Ladies.  Gents.  Put it on your face.  Use the Nike approach.  Don’t think about it, Just Do It.  Your face will thank you.  Your face will thank you now, your face will thank you in 10, 15, 20, 40 years time.  If you are 18, 28, 38, 68, slather an eye cream on.  Twice a day, every day. Just Say No to crows feet.  Peace Out to fine lines.  Under eye circles?  Forgeddabout it.  Eye cream to me, is crucial.  If you are not using one, please I beg you, go out and get one today.  You cannot just put regular moisturizer under those peepers and expect results.  Eye creams are formulated specifically for the delicate skin under and around there.  For me, this isn’t even a treat yo’self situation, this is mandatory selfcare 101.

These are my tried and true favorites.

I am currently using this cream and this one little pot is going strong, almost 12 months later.  I use probablly 1/645 of a teaspoon with each application.  The algeuronic acid in it is super hydrating and the anti-aging properties are the best out of any product I have ever used.  And I am a product junkie.  Totally worth the $65 price tag.  I love the way it feels on my skin.

Next up,  Clinique.  What post about skincare would be complete without a nod to this brand?  A lower price point, a thinner consistency, if your skin is not very dry or you are quite young, this is a good option.

I was using this one at the time of my wedding.  Loved it.  If you have dry skin or are getting ready for winter’s sharp bite, give this baby a try.

Run.  Do not walk to the nearest mecca Sephora, Macys, Bloomingdales, CVS, whatever and treat yo’self to some eye cream.  You will not regret it.

Treat Yo’Self Thursday

One of my favorite treats is getting a mani/pedi.  In New York, nail salons are as ubiquitous as Starbucks and you can get a deal if you look.  I pay 8 bucks for a basic manicure and 15 to get my toes done at my favorite neighborhood place.  Quite reasonable and the service is awesome.  One thing I don’t like about New York nail salons is the polish.  They thin it out to make it last longer.  I get it, they have to cut costs in order to keep the prices down and stay competitive.  So I bring my own!

Gotta have a good base and top coat.  I just found this one from OPI, it’s a base, top and strengthener all in one!  Bonus, it is formaldehyde free.  Love that!

Next up, color.  Right now I am in love with COLOR!  I cannot get enough of red for fall.

Essie’s A-List is one of my favorites right now.

I am also a big fan of the greige movement.  It is warm and comforting to me somehow and totally fall.  Not something I wear in summer, but I love to rock it as the leaves turn colors.  It’s great with warm fuzzy sweaters and scarves.  I have two bottles of this color, Grunge, by Rescue Beauty Lounge, one at home and one in my desk for nail emergencies.  Somewhere between color and neutral, it’s hot.

What are your can’t live without nail colors?

Treat Yo’Self Thursday – Workout Gear

Happy Thursday!  One more day till the weekend!

This installment of Treat Yo’Self Thursday is dedicated to what I can’t live without when it comes to gym clothes.  Let’s start with tops.

This Energy Tank from Athleta for me is a MUST.  Holds everything together, if you know what I mean! It comes in a variety of colors and sizes.

It also has a great back pocket, one zip and one that is just kinda open.  Great for holding your iphone during a walk or jog.

Next up, pants!  Love these boot cut fitness pants from LL Bean.  I wear them everywhere to every kind of class.  They are snug in all the right places and flattering.  They are made from a thicker material than the Athleta version which I like and have lasted a pretty long time.  I have a few Athleta pairs but they are falling apart and I don’t like they way they hang loose on my body.  I like the snug feel of the LL Bean pant.

I am not quite comfortable wearing the Energy Tank alone in the gym.  I usually pair it with this “perfect” crew neck t-shirt from Old Navy.  Time the sales right and you can stock up for cheap.  They are so nice and soft, stretchy and form fitting without being tight.  I wear them with jeans too.

HEADBANDS!  I cannot workout without a heandband.  I absolutely cannot stand the little hair woofie whispies in my face.  Lululemon makes the best.  They have this rubberized track thing inside that makes them nonslip and they stay put.  I just got this one, so cute!

What special gear do you need to make your workout complete?

Treat Yo’Self Thursday

This is the first in a series of posts posts called Treat Yo’Self Thursdays.  Change is HARD.  Sometimes you need a treat along the way.  Food is no longer a treat for me, so I choose other things, like good face cream, jewelry, clothes.  Once a week I’m gonna share all my treats with y’all.  (Today is apparently Southern day for this Yankee).

First up, skin care.  Those of you who know me personally know that I am kind of psycho when it comes to taking care of my face.  For my guy readers, don’t close the browser, this applies to you too!  Skin care is important for ALL PEOPLE!  Men, Women, Children!  EVERYONE!  As the niece of a dermatologist, I learned early on, skin care is important.  This is not just about wrinkles and spots, this is about melanoma!  People die because they don’t take proper care of their biggest organ, their skin.

So first things first, SPF!  I take SPF seriously. (In my house we pronounce it spffffff instead of S.P.F. because it makes the process of application that much more fun and less arduous. Pass the spfff!  I need to spffff myself!  Have you spfff’ed yet today?)  I lather up every day, especially my face, so I treat myself to a good one.  It feels good after eating so much healthy food and working out so hard to put a nice product on my body.  Here are my current favs:

For the Face – LOVE it, little pricy but it really lasts a long time and hello, you only get ONE FACE!  Take care of it!

For the Body – this one really stays on when you sweat!

Yes SPF 85. Have you met me? I am a pasty pale brit, I do not tan, I burn and burn hard. SPF 50 or higher for this gal. (Disclaimer, yes I have heard the rumours that anything over SPF 30 does not actually do that much more but I don’t care! I feel better in my mind knowing I have done everything I can to prevent a burn which = cancer.)

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, all you have to do is call and I will be there Spfffffff in hand my friend.  Treat Yo’Self  to a good SPF and you won’t regret it!
