Non-Resolution Week 1

Happy 2013!  Welcome to the New Year!  We have 365 new days to make this year awesome.

To support my Non-Resolution of breaking through the dreaded plateau, I started weighing and measuring my food again.  I haven’t been doing it for the past couple of months.  I haven’t been perfect about it but it’s a start.  I noticed that 4 oz chicken is a LOT less than I have been eating recently so that could be part of the plateau.  It is really good for me to weigh and measure, it helps me stay on track.  Since I am not counting calories for today, I have to keep my portions in check.

What have you been doing to support your Non-Resolutions this week?

Non-Resolutions for 2013

Happy New Year! That’s a pic of me and John from my birthday a few weeks ago.  Love to see John in a tie!

So New Year’s Eve to me screams New Year’s resolutions.  How many years was my resolution to loose weight?  Um let’s see…pretty much every year since 1990.  How many times did I keep said resolution? Uh maybe 1 or 2.  And did it ever last like resolutions “are supposed to?”  Clearly not or else I wouldn’t even be writing this post or even this blog as a whole.

This year, I am making Non-Resolutions.  What is a Non-Resolution?  Well let me tell you what a regular resolution means to me first.  A resolution is something like “I am getting up at 6:15 every day starting January 1”  Well that is all well and good but what happens when you are REALLY tired and need to sleep in?  If you are like me, you sleep in and then feel like crap that you broke your resolution…on the first day.  Or what about this one, “I am hitting the gym 5 times a week no matter what!”  Well what happens if you get sick or you have to work late or your oversleep and you break your streak…after the first week?  I used to do this all the time.  Make a resolution, do it for a day (or sometimes not even half a day), break it, beat up on myself, give up, and “resolve” to do better…the following year.

Enter the Non-Resolution.  A Non-Resolution sounds more like this – “I would like to break through my #$^% plateau, so every week I am going to take a few actions to make that happen.”  Sounds like goal setting?  You bet it does.  A Non-Resolution is basically a goal for the year.  How you get to that goal can change over time. And next December, you can look back over the last 12 months and see your progress.  Even if the exact goal does not happen, you will be on your way!  Like my 67 pounds.  So I didn’t hit 75.  Well if I give up now, then slowly I would end up back here.

And that isn’t happening. This picture is a million miles away from the one at the top of this post.  I am so different in so many ways, inside and out, the woman in this picture no longer exists!

So what are my non-Resolutions?

  1. Break through the #%#% plateau and hit the 75 lb mark.
  2. Be more tidy – ask anyone in my family, I am the messiest one…out of all of us/

Yes I am only making two.  More than that and I will get overwhelmed and want to give up.  It is too easy to get lost in my goals and aspirations.   What I need to do every week to make those two Non-Resolutions come true is, well, a lot of work. So what are your Non-Resolutions for 2013?  I would love to see them in the comment section below!
